Commissioning a piece of bespoke furniture is an exciting and inspiring process. The collaboration between client and artist / designer results in the creation and ownership of a life enhancing, unique piece of fine furniture made to the exacting standards that will allow enjoyment for generations to come.

An initial meeting is arranged at our workshops or preferably at the location in which the new piece will be housed. This meeting gives you the opportunity to look through our portfolio of past commissions and also allows Will Acland our head designer to see where the furniture will live, to take accurate measurements and to get a feel and take inspiration from the surroundings. Preferred design styles, practical aspects of the design, timber choices, budgets and timescales will also be discussed. A small design deposit is taken at this stage commensurate with the scale of the project and time required to develop ideas.

The work now moves to the Waters and Acland design studio. Sketches, presentation drawings, wood samples and if required scale models will be created. These along with details of budget and making schedules are finalised and a second meeting is arranged.

During the second meeting the designs are presented and input is welcomed. If a re design is required we go back to the drawing board and with all our designs we strive to present on paper a design that both parties are completely happy with. The furniture represents an investment both financially and emotionally and as such it must be just right.

When we reach this point a deposit secures a place in our workshop schedule and an approximate delivery date is discussed.

During the making process clients are welcome to visit the workshops in order to meet the craftsman and see the work in progress.

The finished piece is delivered and installed by the craftsman that made the piece with final positioning and buffing done on site. ‘Perfection in the making
