An inspiring place to live, work, and study

Our Location

Waters and Acland is based in the vibrant village of Staveley, just 10 minutes from the M6 and nestled at the entrance to the Kentmere Valley in the Lake District National Park. It’s an inspiring place to live, work, and study, with awe-inspiring landscapes right outside the workshop door.

The Mill Yard

We are part of the thriving Mill Yard complex—a converted bobbin mill now home to a collection of unique businesses. From artisan baking at More? and hearty meals at Wilf’s Café, to local bakes at More Bakery, and world-class cycling gear at Wheelbase, the Yard is a hub for adventure and creativity. When students and staff aren’t making furniture, you’ll likely find them out here—grabbing a coffee, catching up, or setting off on an adventure.

The Lake District National Park

We’re lucky to call this place home. The Lake District boasts England’s highest peaks, deepest lakes, and most spectacular scenery. Whether it’s walking, climbing, mountain biking, paddleboarding or simply soaking it all in, the possibilities for inspiration and exploration are endless. Many of our team are passionate outdoor enthusiasts—don’t hesitate to ask for local recommendations.

Accommodation

There are plenty of options nearby, whether you’re staying for a few days or a few months. Staveley offers a handful of rentals, while Kendal and Windermere have more extensive choices, from B&Bs to long-term lets. We’re happy to offer suggestions or assist with arrangements—just ask.
