The Waters and Acland Online Course is outstanding from both a teaching / learning and value for money point of view. I started the course in May 2023 and the quality of my work has improved tremendously over the past 18 months. What tools will I need for the online furniture making course?

The woodworking tutorials & projects are mostly hand tool based, although a router is necessary for the advanced projects, like the dovetailed box and wall cabinet. We’ve put a recommended tool list together for you to download here

Tool Requirements

I only have a small home workshop and workbench, can I still complete the tutorials?

Yes, absolutely! Our online furniture making course has been designed for small workshop spaces, using mostly hand tools and just a couple of power tools. All the tutorials were filmed up close and ‘at the bench’ – it’s all the space you need!

I don’t have machines to process my timber, how do I start making?

While it would be very handy to have a small table saw, bandsaw, and planer/thicknesser to process components, many timber yards can supply and deliver joinery grade, planed all round timber (PAR) to your door that will be suitable for these projects. Check suppliers for your area.

Is the online furniture making course suitable for beginners?

Yes! Our woodworking tutorials are suitable for beginners and the more experienced hobbyist looking to hone their skills. Silver and Gold tier tutorials start with the core fundamentals for correct tool preparation and sharpening, working to through to more complex cabinet making projects.
