We are excited to introduce a brilliant range of short woodworking courses and furniture making courses. Whether you’re a complete beginner or have years of furniture making experience, we have a course for you. Ranging from 2 days to 4 weeks, our courses are designed to help you develop key woodworking skills, from tool preparation & sharpening to fine joinery techniques and furniture making projects.
The 1-Week Table Making course – Make a table designed by award winning furniture designer Will Acland and build lots of high level woodworking skills along the way.
1-Week Table Making Course with lamination and veneering techniques. In just 1 week our students will make a beautiful side table designed by award winning furniture designer William Acland.
The 1-Week Intro to Fine Furniture Making — Our ever popular ‘skill building’ course. A full week dedicated to preparing your hand tools and mastering control. You won’t be able to blame those tools after this week!
Make a beautiful dovetailed box with hand cut dovetail joints in just 10 days. Build something beautiful and build skills. What a joyous combination.
A fun and intense 2-Day Box Making Course. create a beautiful solid wood box featuring mitred and dovetail splined joints as well as a sliding lid.
An amazing 4 week fine furniture making course — skill building projects and furniture making, including a table with exposed hand cut joinery, a circular tri-table with marquetry top.
Notes and short course highlights
- Our workshop and school is located in the beautiful Lake District National Park.
- The Mill Yard complex has a number of fine places to purchase food and drink during your time in the school.
- A range of accommodation is available in close proximity to the workshop and school.
- The projects undertaken have been designed by award-winning furniture designer Will Acland.
- Student numbers are limited to 5 in order to ensure every student gets the close attention they need.
- No previous experience is necessary for most of our short courses.
- Students take away all projects and test pieces created during the courses.
- All timber and consumables are included in the course fees.
- Small groups are welcome and bespoke courses can be arranged.
- Our new short course facility is connected to our Designer Maker workshop and school.
