Table Making Course Content

The mission of this week-long table making course is to create a beautiful side table designed by award winning furniture designer Will Acland. It was not only designed as a beautiful piece of fine furniture, but also as a sophisticated teaching aid. In the early weeks of our long format Designer Maker Courses this table making project focuses students attention on cutting accurate joints both by hand, and with the aid of, machine tools. We are now delighted to offer this one week course to both beginners, and those with previous woodworking experience. Come and join us here in the beautiful Lake District. All tools and timber are provided and the table, as well as any test pieces, are yours to take away and treasure.

We have a maximum of 5 students on our short courses which allows for our dedicated tutors to provide that much needed close supervision.

All courses take place in our new ‘short course’ facility which is situated next to the long course ‘Designer Maker’ bench room. This allows our short course students to observe our long course students hard at work creating their beautiful pieces of fine furniture. The atmosphere is one of creativity and learning.

Course Highlights

• Cut mortise and tenon, bridle and half lap joints by hand and machine.
• Gain control of hand tools for accurate jointing and wood preparation.
• Use our workshop tools and understand what sharp really is.
• Accurate dimensioning of components.
• Understand workshop drawings.
• Assembly and glue up techniques.
• Sanding and preparation for finishing.

• To secure a place full payment of the course fee is due at point of booking.
• We offer a 14 day cancellation period with full refund from the point of booking.
• Up to 60 days before the course start date 50% of the course fee will be refunded on cancellation.
• Within 60 days of the course start date all course fees become non refundable.
