Description
4-Week Fine Furniture Making Course Content
This 4-week fine furniture making course combines projects from our 1-week programs with additional time to develop core skills. Beginning with small projects like the Chinese Puzzle and Octagonal Cutting Board, students build essential skills in tool preparation, gaining control of hand planes, saws, and chisels. Next, students tackle a table (from our Joinery Masterclass), which challenges them to cut joints by hand and introduces precision use of portable tools and router tables. The final project, the Tri Table with a marquetry top, uses lamination and veneer techniques to complete an exciting month of fine furniture making. Throughout this course, students will create beautiful, timeless pieces: a Chinese puzzle, an octagonal cutting board, a low table with exposed joinery, and a circular side table with marquetry top. These pieces, designed by award-winning furniture designer Will Acland, serve as sophisticated teaching aids, ensuring students achieve the high standards associated with the Waters and Acland Furniture Workshop and School.
All students need to bring a hand plane and small selection of chisels of high quality.
After booking your place you will receive an email with more general details and tool purchasing advice.
We have a maximum of 5 students on our short courses which allows for our dedicated tutors to provide much needed close supervision.
All courses take place in our new ‘short course’ facility which is situated next to the long course ‘(Designer Maker’) bench room. This allows our short course students to observe our long course students hard at work creating their beautiful pieces of fine furniture. The atmosphere is one of creativity and learning.
