Location
The workshop is located in the vibrant village of Staveley, just 10 minutes off the M6 and within Englands largest National Park – The Lake District.
Being situated at the foot of the Kentmere valley Staveley is perfectly positioned to just step out and make the most of the amazing surroundings.
An inspiring place for anyone to live and work. It really is awesome.

The Mill Yard
Our workshop is part of the Mill Yard complex. A former Bobbin Mill that has been converted into the location for a number of unique and interesting businesses. The award winning artisan baker – More?, Wilfs Cafe – a popular destination for fell walkers, The Hawkshead brewery with its large public bar and the ‘Forge’ Inov8 (Mountain running band) concept store are all of particular interest to those spending time at the workshops. The Yard is also home to wheelbase one of the UK’s best and Europes largest cycle shops which is also the hub for fantastic cycling events such as the Tour of Staveley (road sportive) and The Sam Houghton Mountain bike challenge. It’s just a great place to hang out and a real hub for the adventurous and those wanting to explore the outdoors.
When our students and staff aren’t working they can often be found on the Mill Yard. Eating, drinking or setting off on adventures. I guess that says it all.
The Lake District National Park
In the North West of England The Lake District is home to England’s highest mountain and largest lake. With its astonishing scenery and breath taking mountain views it is clear to see how it attracts nearly 16 million visitors per year. Whether you like to walk, climb, mountain bike or sail there is a wealth of things to see and do throughout the year.
All the team here at the workshop and school enjoy walking, biking, running, kayaking, camping or going on all kinds of family adventures in the Lakes. You certainly won’t be short of advice when it comes to what you can do for ‘off day’ entertainments.

Culture
If you are more interested in culture than the-great-outdoors you won’t be disappointed either. There are numerous events throughout the year in Staveley from live bands at Hawkshead Brewery to a ‘Rio style’ carnival, whilst nearby Kendal and Windermere have even more to offer.
Kendal is home to The Brewery Arts Centre, one of the leading arts centres in the UK. It runs a year round programme of exciting, diverse, top quality events and, exhibitions in all art forms’.
Another Waters and Acland favourite is Blackwell House. Blackwell, now open to the public serving as a craft exhibition venue and an Arts & Crafts museum, is worth many repeat visits for any budding fine furniture maker looking for inspiration.
